:: SHAPER BIO

Born in 1981 in East London, South Africa, SIMON FISH has been surfing since he could walk.
He earned a name for himself competing at junior level on the South African Pro-junior contest circuit and represented South Africa at the World Grommet Champs held at D-bar in Australia.

After school, the stylish goofy-footer shredded his way around Australia, Indonesia and Europe, and has spent four seasons in Hawaii.
FISH started shaping in Hawaii during the 2004/2005 season under the experienced eye of North Shore veteran Buddy McCray.

Back in South Africa, FISH set up a shaping bay in friend’s garage and soon was seen ripping the local waves on his own boards. Surf buddy Roydon Bryson also participated in early R&D, shredding on an early “Simon Fish fish”.

Riding one of the first boards he shaped, FISH came 2nd at SA champs. “Shaping boards for myself sparked a fire,” says FISH. Other surfers began to take note of FISH’s high-performance sticks and he soon began shaping for all the local boys.
“I have been fortunate to work with great shapers. Andrew Carter helped me out in beginning … and I spent another season in Hawaii, shaping for Jeff Bushman, shaping and testing bigger boards, for heavy waves on the North Shore and beyond.”
Currently, FISH is working with top up-and-coming surfers Shaun Joubert, Nick Godfrey, and Davey Brand. He also works with talented woman surfer Nikita Robb and other WQS hotties. FISH also provides Roydon Bryson – now on the WCT – with his Teahupoo / Pipeline boards.
FISH is now based at Cape St Francis, fine-tuning boards at his home break and at J-Bay with top local surfers. With Supers arguably the world’s best right-hand point, there is no better testing ground for the new breed of FISH STIX.
